Designs by Yeohlee, Amy Chan, Barney Cheng, Blanc de Chine, Jeffrey Chow, Han Feng, Andrew Gn, Derek Lam, John Rocha, Peter Som, Anna Sui, Vivienne Tam, Shanghai Tang, Zang Toi and Vera Wang were featured in the New China Chic Exhibition, recently on view Oct. 4-16th in the Terrace Gallery of the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. The fashion exhibit was one of many highlights during the the month-long Festival of China at the Kennedy Center, the single largest celebration of Chinese performing arts in American history showcasing 600 of Chinas best actors, dancers, directors, musicians, puppeteers, choreographers and acrobats.

This has been a stellar year for Yeohlee in the nation's capital-beginning with a reception at the White House this April, where the designer was honored as the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award winner for Fashion Design.

The New York based designer travelled to Washington D.C. early in October for the opening reception of The New China Chic Exhibition at the Kennedy Center, then gave a lecture at the Corcoran Gallery of Art on Oct. 6th.

The evening at the Corcoran, a benefit for the Fashion Group Internationals scholarship fund, began with a reception sponsored by Capitol File magazine, followed by Yeohlee's talk on "Designing for the Urban Nomad" and a fashion show featuring her latest collection.

"Urban Nomad," a term coined by Teng in 1996, exemplifies the influence of modernity, travel, and multiculturalism evident in her fusion of innovative fabrics with good design and fine craftsmanship. Fielding questions ranging from 'Why would linear, geometric clothing be part of a China Chic exhibit?' to 'waste managementhow does one conserve fabric?', Yeohlee spoke about her design work, aesthetic, and ideas about modern dressing.

"I am excited to be sharing some of my work with Washington, D.C., as I think that a modern aesthetic and clean lines resonate well with the style of the city," said Yeohlee.
