18 year old American figure skater Nathan Chen from Salt Lake City, Utah came to the Winter Olympics to win a medal.

He didn't, but instead he wowed audiences worldwide by making history as the first person in Olympic competition to perform six unprecedented quad jumps.

Nathan's historic performance of six quads, included five clean quad jumps, and on the third quad his hand touched the ground.

Despite his extraordinary talents and record as the only international skater who was undefeated on the Grand Prix circuit this season, at the 2018 Winter Olympics Nathan came in 17th in a short program, and in the team event short program, another dismal score.

"I already fell so many times, I might as well just go out, throw everything down, and see what happens," Chen told the press.

On his third day of competition, in men's free skate, Nathan skated as the star that he is, and rose from 17th to 5th place. 

Reigning Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu from Japan won the gold, becoming the first back-to-back gold medalist in the event since 1952 when American figure skater Dick Button won the gold.

Chen, the son of Chinese immigrants, began taking skating lessons at the age of three. By the time he was ten, he was competing in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. He is expected to compete in March for the 2018 World Figure Skating Championships.

Congratulations to Chloe Kim, 17 year-old USA team snowboarder who just won the Gold medal in the women's halfpipe.

The American snowboarder from Torrance, California, Chloe Kim won with a score of 98.25 on her final run with China's Jiayu Liu taking silver and United States' Arielle Gold winning bronze.

Kim, became the first woman to score a perfect 100 score in the halfpipe in 2016 and has won three X Games gold medals.

Kim's parents emigrated from South Korea to the U.S. in 1982 reportedly with just $800 in cash.

Chloe's father, Jong Jin Kim gave up his job to help his daughter train in snowboarding and reach her Olympic dreams.

The Honorable March Fong Eu will be laid to rest tomorrow Wednesday January 10, 2018. Memorial services will be held at 10AM (PST) at Chapel of the Chimes, at 4488 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, California.

She has left us with a lasting legacy of a lifetime of service to our world, and inspiring us to strive to make our world a better place. You will be dearly missed.

Happy Birthday to March Fong Eu, a truly great lady. Today, March 29, 2013 the former U.S. Ambassador to Micronesia and Secretary of State of California turns 91.

Last Saturday, her daughter Suyin and I celebrated her March 29th birthday early. Dr. Eu is in good heatlh, and maintains her natural sense of humor. 

As a successful Asian American in the public eye for decades as well as being a female in the male dominated world of politics, Dr. Eu has been one of the most popular political figures in California history. 

She has inspired generations of people from all walks of life and backgrounds. She has always had a strong connection to serve the 'common man.'

Nobel Peace Center, Oslo

Sim Chi Yin has travelled to North Korea and the US to photograph nuclear sites as part of the Nobel Peace Prize Exhibition 2017, at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo.

This year’s Nobel Peace Prize exhibition is named “Ban the Bomb” inspired by ICAN’s slogan.

Equipped with cameras and a drone, Sim Chi Yin has spent the past two months traveling along the border of North Korea and across six American states to depict a world we otherwise would not see.

Sim Chi Yin’s photographic series –Fallout– offers an insightful investigation into the realities of nuclear sites and nuclear weapons, and how they have affected individual lives and societies.

“Creating this exhibition has been fascinating for me given that I had read Cold War history at university and my previous career as a Beijing-based journalist writing about the region including North Korea.

I set out to create a series of images pairing the landscapes of North Korea with those of the United States – which are the only country to test nuclear weapons in the 21st Century and the only country to use them.

I found some interesting, uncanny parallels, which led me to reflect on the human experience with nuclear weapons, past and present.

Given the current global worries over the recent North Korean missile tests, and the war of words between Pyongyang and Washington, it feels particularly timely to reflect on this issue,” says Ms. Sim.

  September 14, 2017   Jackie Chan, at 63, is as busy as ever. His latest film The Foreigner releases on American screens this October 13, 2017, and launches on streaming platforms in January, 2018.   This is his first high profile movie to come to America since 2010's release of The Karate Kid where he played the mentor to the karate kid (Jaden Smith). He has also been a voice actor during this time for two Kung Fu Panda sequels, the Lego Ninjago Movie, and The Nut Job 2.  The Foreigner, starring Jackie and Pierce Brosnan is an action thriller directed by Martin Campbell, (Casino Royale).   Jackie plays Quan, a humble London businessman whose teenage daughter is killed in a senseless act by terrorists. While frantically searching for the terrorists, he gets entangled in a conflict with a British government official played by Brosnan who may have clues to lead him to the terrorists.   After wrapping The Foreigner, Jackie completed another film Bleeding Steel with a limited U.S. release date of December 22, 2017, directed by Chinese director Leo Zhang.   Jackie stars in this sci-fi action movie as a UN security officer trying to rescue his estranged daughter from a mutant super soldier and space robots.   The film features Jackie in the first fight scene to be filmed on the roof of the Sydney Opera House, with Australian co-star Tess Haubrich.
