The Year of Sheltering Dangerously By Ben Fong-Torres
The Year of Sheltering Dangerously By Ben Fong-Torres   Well, hasn’t THIS been a fun 365? As we approached the anniversary of the shelter-in-place orders for the San Francisco Bay Area, on March 16, I thought of some of the changes we’ve been through.  In February, our calendar was packed with restaurant dinners and a large, loud gathering at Harbor Villa, saluting our friend, the civil rights attorney Dale Minami. And there was my 24th time as co-anchor of the...

Solutions for Winter Ravaged Hair

Posted by Lia Chang on Friday, 25 November 2005

My latest solution for winter ravaged hair? The new Damage Remedy Hair Care System from Aveda.

Winter has arrived in New York City. With the mercury dipping below 20 outside and heating systems on high inside, its time to change hair and skin care routines.

My solution for winter ravaged hair? I'm trying products introduced at the recent New York Fashion Week. My first products are from Aveda, the new Damage Remedy hair care system. Aveda's moisture intensive trio contains quinoa protein, coconut, babassu, phellodendron, sandalwood, and pure plant oils like barley, castor, jojoba and meadowfoam seed oils for strengthening and repairing frazzled hair.

To counteract the drying effects of frigid temperatures, low humidity, overheated offices, and blow drying, I used the Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment. So far so good. If the results are as good for you as they were for me, you will keep your hair shiny, silky and smooth all winter long.

Next week, stay tuned as I try some skin care products that many models at Fashion Week were raving about.

Luxury Skincare for Sensitive Skin

When I get called to work on As the World Turns , I need to be ready for my closeup. I have sensitive skin and because the camera can be unforgiving, it is important for me to use the best.

When I get called to work on As the World Turns , I need to be ready for my closeup. I have sensitive skin and because the camera can be unforgiving, it is important for me to use the best. I am constantly trying out new products.

My daily skincare regime consists of the Buff and Wash Facial Gel and the Emulsion Ecologique by Sisley Paris. This French Skin Care line is based on phytocosmetology, the process of applying natural plant extracts to beauty products.

Exfoliation is key. Infused with Poppy extracts and Verbena and Lavender essential oils, the Buff and Wash Facial Gel has micro-polishing granules which leave my face smooth, fresh and radiant.

To protect my skin against the weather extremes of New York winters and environmental pollution, I apply Emulsion Ecologique, a luxurious synergistic complex of Centella Asiatica, Ginseng, Rosemary, Hops and Horsetail. The light non-oily formula absorbs easily, doesn't clog my pores and is a perfect skincare base.
